Yanwe watched their rippling banners, reds, lilacs and pale blues all caught in the sun. “Do they know who I am?”

Mother bit her lip. “No, not yet. The time has come, Yanwe, for you to learn the Second Teaching of Fāllawe.” She placed the scripture in Yanwe’s hands. “Here, for today. It will make you look even more like a Sovereign.”

So much was for show, Yanwe thought. If she was meant to be Sovereign, why did it feel like she must pretend?

About

Thirty Thousand Steps is a high fantasy novel about a princess, Yanwe, who discovers she wasn’t meant to live. Her struggle for understanding threatens her beloved sister and the spiritual balance of their world. Can they overcome the past and restore harmony?

I began writing this story almost a decade ago, around 2012-2013. Since then I’ve journeyed through multiple drafts, rewrites, and edits to hone the story. It contains a wide cast of characters, an interweaving plot and, a touch of philosophy drawn from my Eastern religious studies.

Much of the artwork you’ll find here draws from Thirty Thousand Steps. I hope you’ll see it on a bookshelf someday!
